Sophia Chen is a second-year undergraduate at MIT studying mechanical engineering with a concentration in product design. She is fascinated by the interface between science, art, and the human experience: especially that between technology and biology. Her previous work includes biological engineering science research at the Stonybrook University’s Garcia Center for Polymers at Engineered Interfaces on in vitro tooth enamel generation for medical applications, and wearable startup development throughout the ideation to prototyping stages. Sophia also loves the arts; with a minor in Design, she hopes to approach all design problems through both technical and artistic perspectives, yielding both breadth and depth of understanding.

Sophia is looking forward to becoming part of the Conformable Decoders group, and developing both her skills in mechanical engineering and product design, as well as her knowledge of biomedical devices. Knowing that there is not only a lot to learn, but a lot to still be accomplished in the field of wearable and implantable biotechnology, Sophia hopes to help Conformable Decoders in making in vivo energy harvesters effective and ubiquitous--all while realizing her goal to help others, and make the world a better place.
