Ruth Mattson provides administrative support for the Conformable Decoders research group at the MIT Media Lab. She holds a B.A. degree in English Writing / Literature and also holds a M.Ed. degree in Education with an emphasis on teaching. As a graduate student, Ruth also earned her Massachusetts Educator License (Grades 1 - 6) and performed her field work with the Boston Public Schools. Ruth began her career as a Freelance Editor in the field of educational publishing. In this role, Ruth edited manuscripts for a basal reading series of books to be used in public elementary schools. Ruth also contributed to designing lessons for the Teacher's Edition, a companion resource book for this reading series. As a "Freelance Writer", Ruth has also written feature stories which have been published in local newspapers. As a teacher, Ruth has worked in various roles with the Massachusetts Public Schools. She has worked as a "Classroom Teacher" (Grade 2), a "Title One Teacher" (Grades 1-3), a "Literacy Teacher" (Middle School), and has also implemented the "Wilson Language Training" program as an "ABE Teacher" (Adult Basic Education). Eventually, Ruth transitioned from teaching to become an administrative support professional in the field of education. She began by supporting an elementary school Principal in the Massachusetts Public Schools, and then supported a Superintendent of Schools. Over the last decade, Ruth has worked exclusively in higher education to provide administrative support at a wide variety of colleges and universities including Wheaton College, Suffolk University, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Tufts University, Harvard Medical School, Northeastern University, MIT, Wellesley College and Dean College. Now, as an administrative assistant for the Conformable Decoders research team, Ruth is excited to be joining hands with an exciting community of designers, researchers and inventors at the MIT Media Lab.
